Frequently Asked Questions
How does military time work?
Military time uses a 24-hour clock. Hours run from 00 (midnight) to 23 (11 PM). There is no AM or PM. For example, 1:00 PM = 1300, 6:00 AM = 0600, midnight = 0000.
How do I convert PM times to military time?
For PM times, add 12 to the hour. 1 PM = 13, 2 PM = 14, ..., 11 PM = 23. Exception: 12 PM (noon) stays as 12. For AM: 12 AM (midnight) = 00, all other AM hours stay the same.
Why is military time used?
Military time eliminates ambiguity between AM and PM. It is used by the military, aviation, hospitals, emergency services, and in most countries outside the US as the standard time format.
