Calculate the net wall area (perimeter x height minus doors and windows), then divide by the usable coverage per roll (~51-57 sq ft for standard rolls after pattern waste). A typical 12x12 room needs 6-8 single rolls.

Pattern repeat is the distance between repeating design elements. You must align patterns between strips, which creates waste. Simple textures waste 5-10%, medium patterns 10-15%, and large patterns 15-25%. Budget 15% waste as a safe average.

A single roll is 27" x 15' or 27" x 27' depending on the standard. A double roll contains twice the paper. Most wallpaper is sold in double rolls (even if priced per single roll) to reduce waste when cutting strips.
