Formula

Ozempic titration: 0.25 mg × 4 weeks → 0.5 mg × 4 weeks → 1.0 mg → optional 2.0 mg. Wegovy titration: 0.25 mg → 0.5 mg → 1.0 mg → 1.7 mg → 2.4 mg maintenance, each step for 4 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Ozempic titration schedule?
Ozempic (semaglutide for diabetes) starts at 0.25 mg weekly for 4 weeks (initiation), then increases to 0.5 mg weekly. After at least 4 weeks at 0.5 mg, it can be increased to 1.0 mg, then optionally to 2.0 mg. Each step should be maintained for at least 4 weeks before escalating.
What is the difference between Ozempic and Wegovy?
Both contain semaglutide. Ozempic is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes (max 2.0 mg/week), while Wegovy is approved for chronic weight management (max 2.4 mg/week). Wegovy has a more gradual 5-step titration schedule to minimize GI side effects at the higher maintenance dose.
What are common side effects of GLP-1 medications?
The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: nausea (15-40%), vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain. These are most common during dose titration and usually improve over time. Gradual dose escalation helps minimize these effects. Rare but serious risks include pancreatitis and medullary thyroid carcinoma (contraindicated in patients with MEN2 or family history of medullary thyroid cancer).
